I was thinking about when and where Lord Ganesha’s (Elephant head God) was first mentioned in ancient scriptures. And I found it was in the Rig veda in the following shloka.
gaṇā́ nāṃ tvā gaṇápatiṃ havāmahe, kavíṃ kavīnā́m upamáśravastamam jyeṣṭharā́ jam bráhmaṇām brahmaṇas pata, ā́ naḥ śr̥ṇvánn ūtíbhiḥ sīda sā́ danam
So Ganapati is worshiped for centuries and is still invoked at the beginning of any work to start it on an auspicious note.
This is my simplified interpretaion based on some previous explanations and decoding sanskrit words using a dictionary:
We invoke you, the supreme divine, the supreme seer, the greatest king of divine powers, on our soul as your throne, on which you are welcomed to be seated with your infinite divine powers.
